Ambiguities - Portrait of Elsewhere
Project type
Drawings / Collages on various paper / PVC
Date
2018 - Ongoing
In a constantly evolving world, portraits of feminist women and fighters emerge as powerful symbols of resilience and strength. Through my drawings and collages, I aim to capture not only the faces of these inspiring figures but also their stories, their emotions, and the struggles that drive them.
Each portrait is carefully composed of fragments of life: paper cuttings, excerpts from powerful speeches, cultural motifs, and vibrant colors. These elements intertwine to create a unifying background—a living tapestry that celebrates the diversity of feminist struggles around the globe. From iconic figures such as Malala Yousafzai, who defends girls’ education, to local activists who rise against violence and injustice, every work pays tribute to a unique journey.
The collage, in its very nature, symbolizes the idea that every voice, every story, contributes to the greater fabric of feminism. Drawing lines merge with paper textures, evoking the interconnectedness of struggles and the solidarity woven worldwide. The use of transparent layers and superimposed materials allows me to renew the tradition of portraiture—an ongoing pursuit in my artistic practice. In this way, contemporary art becomes a powerful tool of expression and resistance, inviting viewers to reflect, to feel, and to engage.
In my drawings, I honor women who have become fighters—not only for their personal freedom but also for political, humanitarian, or ecological causes. These women stand tall, outside of traditional social roles, often in conflict with themselves and with the future expectations of them. It is precisely these tensions and convergences that inspire me. Through painting and drawing, I strive to honor both their strength and their vulnerability.
These works evoke them as fleeting apparitions: portraits that at first appear as beautiful images, but on closer view reveal their realities—their joys, their anxieties, and the emotions that touch us most deeply.
This series is both a testimony to our time and an invitation for women everywhere to recognize their own strength, fragility, and self-worth.
